What Every New Tattoo Client Should Know About Cleanliness

If you want to learn about getting a Tattoo safely, then you’ll want to read this article. Specifically we’ll discuss Autoclaves, Proper Cleaning Rituals and Disposable Equipment. After reading this article, you should be able to visit any Art Body Tattoo parlour and detect how safe they are.

If you don’t see an Autoclave in the Tattoo shop just leave. They are not professionals. Every pro Tattoo Artist has an autoclave. They use it to sterilize all of the equipment. By using forced steam, the autoclave kills all the bacteria on tattoo equipment. It is especially effective at driving the steam into the small nooks and crannies of each individual item. Proper maintenance is required on the autoclave to ensure it is actually working. Make sure that the Tattoo Artist can show proof that his unit has been regularly tested by a lab in what is known as a spore test. A properly maintained and utilized autoclave is the first step towards a safe Tattoo. Next you want to be vigilant to the handling of all of the equipment.

Instruments only remain sterilized if they are stored and handled properly by all parties involved. Every time a piece of equipment is touched or placed on a counter can defeat the sterilization process. Remember, that from the moment you enter a Tattoo shop germs can be present anywhere. That means the chair you sit in, every counter or tray, and the hands of the Tattoo Artist. Once something is sterilized it should not be touched. That means that all hard surfaces need to have a protective barrier or covering. Watch the staff to see how they clean and handle all of the equipment. Their actions will tell you if they are knowledgeable and thoughtful about cleanliness. Also be wary of disposable items because they need to be handled properly as well.

Just because a piece of equipment is disposable does not mean it is automatically safe. How it it handled will determine that. Was the packaging opened directly in front of you. That is your only way of being certain that it is new and has not been used before. Did the Tattoo Artist have on gloves when they touched this equipment and was it placed and a clean and covered surface between uses. A little observation on your part will go a long way to keeping you safe.

You are now prepared to go into a Tattoo Parlour and have an educated eye with respect to cleanliness and safety. You will know to look for an Autoclave and know proper cleaning and handling techniques. This will keep you safe and healthy. Now you can enjoy the process of getting that brand new Tattoo.

The Truth About Sterilization of Tattoo Gear

If you want to learn about getting a Tattoo safely, then you’ll want to read this article. Specifically we’ll discuss Autoclaves, Proper Cleaning Rituals and Disposable Equipment. After reading this article, you should be able to visit any Art Body Tattoo parlour and detect how safe they are.

Every Tattoo parlour must have an Autoclave. The autoclave sterilizes equipment by using pressurized steam that kills bacteria living on the equipment. It forces the steam in and around all the tiny crevices of the gear to ensure that it is totally sterilized. Just having this piece of equipment is step 1. The Autoclave must be regularly tested to ensure it remains effective in killing bacteria. This testing must be validated by a reputable lab. A monthly spore test with appropriate records should be available at your Tattoo Parlour. But a sterilized piece of equipment only remains sterilized if handled properly.
